We prefer to start with an introductory meeting.

We’re available throughout the process to ensure that if an organization is putting the time into thinking through a proposal, we’re thinking together to ensure it has a better chance of being a fit.

Please reach out to us for an introductory meeting as a first step.

Think your organization might be a good fit after reviewing our grantmaking approach?

Learn more about our process.

  • We start with an introductory meeting to get to know a potential nonprofit partner.

If we agree there is alignment in our missions, we invite organizations to send a proposal created for another foundation or work together to complete a simple questionnaire.

The Foundation staff meets as a team to discuss which opportunities to move forward with.

Foundation staff will visit all potential partners or set up virtual meetings for those further away.

  • Someone Else’s Child has an open grant process: no invitation necessary, no dates or deadlines.

A decision is usually made within 2 months from our first conversation.

  • Typically, a first grant is about $10-15K, and early stage “get-to-know-you" grants might be $5K. As a relationship develops, grant size may increase in future years.

  • We are actively seeking organizations with budgets under $2 million dollars if based in the United States or under $1 million dollars if based abroad.

  • Our grants are for one year at a time, with the option for renewed funding. There is no limit on the number of years an organization can be funded.

  • At the end of the grant period we ask nonprofit partners to report on the goals they shared with us during the grantmaking process. This is not for the purpose of evaluating the organization or determining future funding, but it is for the purpose of better understanding their work and creating a basis for more conversation and learning.

We’d prefer that reporting back and learning meetings don’t only happen at the end of the year point. If we haven’t heard from a partner at the 6-month mark, we will reach out to that nonprofit partner to offer the opportunity to schedule a meeting. No written report is expected at this time.
