We are all responsible for children and youth in our communities.
1997
Diane Christian founds Someone Else’s Child
While volunteering at a non-profit dedicated to children, Diane Christian was struck by the notion that children have so much potential, and many lacked opportunities. She realized that their needs are not always obvious and, consequently, often go unnoticed or are discounted. Diane felt that we all have an obligation to provide for our community’s children.
Because of that responsibility and this acute societal need, she established Someone Else’s Child Foundation.
2000 - 2006
Someone Else’s Child expands, working through schools in the Boston area
Kids Helping Kids events—opportunities for children and their loved ones to serve others through volunteerism while cultivating compassion, personal growth, and confidence—became a key theme in the Foundation’s efforts.
Someone Else’s Child sponsored fundraisers, food drives, school backpack and holiday events, generally with community support.
2007 - 2025
Someone Else’s Child provides financial and strategic support to children’s causes throughout the U.S. and Africa
The foundation evolves with an emphasis on collaboration and partnerships with similarly-focused non-profits.
Our areas of focus include education and literacy, arts in schools, homelessness, food insecurity, economic justice, health and nutrition, mentoring, and children living with disabilities.
2026 & Beyond
Someone Else’s Child continues to refine its mission and expand its scope
In response to feedback from our non-profit/NGO partners, we will continue to refine our mission through a variety of partnerships with like-mind organizations and funders. We have also expanded our board of trustees to include members of our family who have deep experience in sustainable development, education, health, and social enterprises.
We are setting a course for the future with an updated strategic plan that calls for youth engagement, network building, expanded resources, and collective action, but with the same commitment to our guiding principle that we are all responsible for the children and youth in our communities.
